Report Release & Meeting: Just Transition Roadmap for Tamil Nadu's Automobile Sector
International Forum for Environment, Sustainability and Technology (iFOREST), supported by Tamil Nadu EV Task Force, Guidance Tamil Nadu and Confederation of Indian Industry organized a multistakeholder roundtable discussion on ‘Just Transition Roadmap for Tamil Nadu’s Automobile Sector’, on April 4th in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
The event brought together a diverse group of key stakeholders, industry luminaries, government officials, heads of automobile associations, start-up founders, academicians, and students, all united in crafting a roadmap for a Just Transition in Tamil Nadu’s automobile sector.
At the event, iFOREST released the first comprehensive study of the impacts of the EV transition on automobile businesses, workers, and the environment. Based on the prospective impacts, the report outlines a comprehensive roadmap for just transition of the automobile sector, which can deliver positive environmental and socio-economic outcomes.
Industries Secretary V. Arun Roy said “We are actively developing a strategy to cater to the increasing electricity demand not only from the mobility sector but also related to the greater development of Tamil Nadu. We are also focusing on conventional power sources, green power sources as well as importing power to complement the domestic generation.”
Thiru Srinivasan, Senior Advisor – Electric Vehicle Sector, FaMe TN said “Chennai is a big cluster dominated by powertrain components. We are also focusing on Coimbatore and Hosur. A 4th cluster – Thoothukudi – is being developed and has attracted significant investments.”
