Report Release & Conference - From ICE to EV: Opportunities and Challenges for Just Transition in Indian Automobile Sector
International Forum for Environment, Sustainability and Technology (iFOREST), supported by Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) organized a multistakeholder meeting on ‘Just Transition in India’s Automobile Sector’ on 14th March 2024.
The objective of the meeting was to convene a diverse group of stakeholders – central government officials, OEMs, auto component manufacturers, academic researchers, think tank experts, and influential figures in civil society – to engage in a meaningful dialogue on the challenges, opportunities and the way forward for ICE to EV transition to support low-carbon economic growth and green jobs.
The event was inaugurated by Mr. Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa and Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India.
At the event, iFOREST released the country’s first comprehensive study on the impact of the ICE to EV transition in the automobile sector. The report “ICE to EV: Challenges, Opportunities and the Roadmap for Just Transition in India’s Automobile Sector” deep-dives into the impact of the transition on businesses, workers and the environment and provides recommendations for a robust policy and institutional framework to support green growth and green jobs. The report is complemented by six separate studies on 2W,3W,4W – Impact Assessment Reports, Enterprise Impact Assessment Report, Automobile Cluster Impact Assessment Report, and Workforce Impact Assessment Report.
Some of the eminent people who joined the panel discussions included Advisor, NITI Aayog, Joint Secretary, Ministry of MSME; senior representatives from Mahindra Electric Automobile, ANAND Automotive, Napino Auto and Electronics Limited, SEP India Pvt Ltd, Hop Electric, BAXY Mobility, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, Ola Electric and Automotive Skills Development Council and industry associations including Hosur Industrial Association.
