One-day Training Programme on Safe Handling and Disposal of BMW at healthcare Facilities

International Forum for Environment, Sustainability and Technology (iFOREST), in partnership with the Worls Health Organisation (WHO) and Pollution Control Board (PCB) Assam, organized a One-day Training Programme on Safe Handling and Disposal of BMW at healthcare Facilities on 12th February 2024.

The objective of the programme was to train about 80 healthcare workers both working at government and private hospital, nurses and ward workers in safe handling and disposal of Biomedical waste generated in the hospital.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Dr. Arup Kumar Misra, Hon’ble Chairman Pollution Control Board, Assam and Mr. Hiren Pegu, Regional Officer, Pollution Control Board Assam.

Dr Sourav Kumar Gogoi, Joint Director, Health Services, Dibrugarh, initiated the conversation with introduction of current Government policies for capacity development and BMW management in Govt. HCF in Assam.

The team of iFOREST initiated the training with a pre-assessment and round of introduction. Furthermore, Dr Suranjana Chaliha Hazarika, Associate Professsor, Dept. of Microbiology, GMCH addressed the Salient features of BMW, Duties of HCFs and penal provisions, Steps involved in BMW management, Infection Control at HCF • Health hazards and safety.

During the training program, interaction with participants was extremely important. Hence, context setting, discussion, tour to wards and interim storage with DEMO to Spill Management and waste segregation was arranged.

The training concluded with closing remarks by Md Jeherul Isslam, Pollution Control Board Assam RLO: Dibrugarh and Ms. Anu Agrawal, WHO.
