Stakeholder Meeting & Report Release: Just Transition for Enabling Green & Inclusive Growth in Jharkhand
International Forum for Environment, Sustainability and Technology (iFOREST), organized a multistakeholder meeting on ‘Just Transition for enabling green and inclusive growth in coal-dependent districts of Jharkhand’, on July 19th in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
At the event, iFOREST released the comprehensive studies done on the repurposing of coal mine land and the strategic use of coal cess to support a just transition in the coal-dependent states and districts of India, including Jharkhand. The set of new studies and analyses highlighted the opportunities of just energy transition to support green growth and green jobs in the state aligning with India’s target of building a net zero economy by 2070.
The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders including government officials, skill development experts, academic researchers, think tank experts, and influential figures in civil society enabling a meaningful dialogue on this crucial topic.
A key focus of the deliberation was the opportunity to repurpose coal mining land and every asset to support green investments and the local economy. Also, the opportunities to utilize coal cess in the coming years to support such measures remained an important aspect.
Overall, the meeting emphasized the collaborative efforts needed to navigate the transition towards a sustainable and economically viable future for Jharkhand.
