Senior Programme Associate, Just Transition

iFOREST is inviting applications from experienced professionals for the position of Senior Programme Associate for the organization’s flagship initiative on Just Transition. The candidate will be primarily engaged in technical and scientific research related to just transition of fossil fuel sectors. Candidates with a background in engineering with experience in public policy research are most suitable for the position and are strongly encouraged to apply.

iFOREST, is an independent non-profit environmental research and innovation organization. The organization seeks to find, promote and scale-up solutions for some of the most pressing environment and development challenges.

The urgency of climate action and the need for developing a low-carbon economy requires a just transition of the fossil fuel sectors and fossil fuel-dependent industries, which will lead to net positive environmental, social and economic outcomes. Just Transition is a flagship initiative of iFOREST, on which the organization is working on a cross-cutting manner through research, policy engagement, public outreach and capacity building. Our engagement spans across sub-national, national and international levels, and involves a range of stakeholders, including government, policy think tanks, multilateral institutions, and various civil society organizations. With a team of experienced professionals from cross cutting domains, and expert advisors and affiliates, the organization has made notable contributions on research and engagement on just transition.


  • Excellent technical knowledge and quantitative skills.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, analytical papers, technical briefs, etc.
  • Ability to engage with maturity and finesse with high-level stakeholders and experts in ministries and government departments, regulators, industry, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly.
  • Ability to work under stiff timelines.
  • Knowledge of fossil fuel industry, and fossil-dependent sectors a plus.


  • M Tech/Master’s degree in relevant engineering discipline from reputed institution.
  • B Tech and Master’s degree in public policy, environmental management or any other relevant discipline.
  • The following engineering backgrounds are preferable: Mining engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and any other as relevant.
  • Candidates with an Engineering degree, along with a Master’s in public policy or related disciple are most suitable.

Work Experience

A minimum of 5-7 years of work experience in think tanks, industrial R&D, research-based consulting, with proven credentials of high-level research and engagement.


Competitive salary as per candidate’s experience and proficiency. Final designation of successful candidate will be based on qualification and experience.
