Programme Lead (Research and Programme Management), Just Transition

iFOREST is inviting applications from experienced and dynamic professionals for the position of Programme Lead for the organizations flagship initiative on Just Transition.  Just Transition is a cross-cutting initiative of iFOREST that is based on cutting-edge public policy research and multi-stakeholder engagement to achieve a green transition, that is socially responsible, environmentally sustainable, and economically viable.

This is a leadership position, and applicants must have excellent research aptitude research, strong communication skills, and experience in multi-stakeholder engagement, team management, and contributions to programme development.

Candidates with suitable backgrounds and at least 8 to 10 years of experience are encouraged to apply.

About iFOREST and its engagement in Just Transition

iFOREST, is an independent non-profit environmental research and innovation organization. The organization seeks to find, promote and scale-up solutions for some of the most pressing environment and development challenges.

The urgency of climate action and the need for developing a low-carbon economy requires a just transition of the fossil fuel sectors and fossil fuel-dependent industries, which will lead to net positive environmental, social and economic outcomes. Just Transition is a flagship initiative of iFOREST  that is focused socio-economic and environmental aspects of just energy transition and industrial decarbonization. The programme is designed as a cross-cutting one and builds on rigorous research, policy engagement, public engagement, and capacity building. Our engagement spans across sub-national, national and international levels, and involves a range of stakeholders, including government, policy think tanks, multilateral institutions, and various civil society organizations.

 Qualification & Work Experience

  • Master’s degree (minimum)from a reputed institution in the field of Economics, Development Economics, Public Policy, Environmental Policy, or related disciplines.
  • Candidates with a B.Tech with Master’s or PhDin Economics or public policy are also encouraged to apply.
  • A minimum of 8 to 10 years of work experience in think tanks, research-based consulting, with proven credentials of high-level research and engagement.

Competencies/Responsibilities

The successful candidate should have the following competencies:

  • Excellent research aptitude with a proven track record.
  • Excellent communication skills, and extrovert personality who can engage with various stakeholders with ease and finesse.
  • Maturity to take up a leadership role to build the programme’s profile, undertake and guide impactful research, build strong multi-stakeholder stakeholder engagement, and strengthen the organization’s engagement on various platforms with respect to just transition.
  • Knowledge of fossil fuel industry, and fossil-dependent sectors, just energy transition, and related issues, is a plus.

The responsibilities as the Programme Lead entail the following:

  • Lead and manage various research projects of the just transition initiative, particularly pertaining to socioeconomic evaluations and policy analysis.
  • Lead and conduct (as required) in-depth primary and secondary research, that includes quantitative and qualitative assessments.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, analytical research papers, technical briefs, etc. with clarity in writing.
  • Engage with a diverse group of stakeholders (government, businesses, investors, philanthropics, NGOs, media etc.) for conducting and disseminating research.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, timelines, and performance metrics to track the effectiveness and impact of the program.
  • Build the institutional profile, and contribute to the design and development of programmes, including support in the writing of new proposals.
  • Any other related assignments as may be entrusted by the reporting authority.

Remuneration

Competitive salary as per candidate’s experience and proficiency. Final designation of successful candidate will be based on qualification and experience.
