Making environmental protection a peoples’ movement
iFOREST, an independent non-profit founded by scientists and environmentalists, drives environmental research, innovation, and citizen engagement to address critical challenges.
About iFORESTCore Programmes

We lead India’s Just Transition efforts by supporting coal-dependent regions and industrial belts to shift to clean energy and green jobs. Our work spans regional transition plans, industrial decarbonisation roadmaps, renewable energy policy support, and South-South cooperation — ensuring climate action is equitable, economically viable, and grounded in local realities.

We support cities, farms, and forests to adapt to climate change. Our work includes developing urban heating and cooling action plans, climate-resilient agriculture for vulnerable regions, and sustainable forest management — helping communities manage risks, protect ecosystems, and strengthen long-term resilience to rising temperatures, erratic rainfall and extreme weather events.

We work to reduce air pollution, manage municipal waste, and cut carbon, methane and particulate matter emissions. From clean air action plans to circular economy models for waste and plastic regulation, we promote data-driven solutions, stakeholder capacity, and citizen engagement for cleaner, healthier environments.

We advance climate and environmental governance through legal reform, institutional capacity, and skill-building. From shaping domestic climate laws and global negotiations to training regulators, industries, and cities, we strengthen systems and leadership for effective climate action, pollution control, and sustainability across sectors.

MOP37 Side Event: Addressing the Leak
Rapid growth in cooling demand and refrigerant leakage problems in India are greatly adding to greenhouse gas emissions from cooling. iFOREST conducted a comprehensive survey across the refrigerant supply chain in seven major Indian cities, revealing major gaps in lifecycle management. This MOP37 side event will bring together policymakers, industry, and experts to discuss survey insights, regulatory reforms, and financial mechanisms to build a circular refrigerant management system focused on safe recovery, recycling, and reuse.

Citizen's Corner
Collective citizen action has long been a driving force of the environmental movement. Citizens have played a pivotal role in addressing pollution, protecting green spaces and forests, improving waste management, and safeguarding rivers. Increasingly, they are also making conscious choices in consumption and lifestyle that contribute to sustainability.
