The Industrial Transition (or industrial decarbonization) programme is a part of iFOREST’s flagship initiative on Just Transition. The programme is strongly focused on technical research and stakeholder engagement (especially with government departments/agencies and the industry) to achieve a green transition of fossil fuel-dependent factories that are associated with various industries.

Qualification & Work Experience 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Systems Engineering, Power Engineering, and related fields, is a must.
• Candidates must have prior experience in at least some of the following: heat pumps, boilers, energy efficiency, and energy management.
• Candidates with prior experience in efficiency improvement measures in MSME sectors, such as Food and Beverages, textiles, Chemicals, Pharma, etc., are desirable.
• Knowledge of industrial decarbonization strategies is desirable.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in industry is required.

The Programme Associate will be responsible for the execution of research and engagement outputs pertaining to industrial decarbonisation across boiler based industries and MSME sector. This would entail conducting impactful research and multi-stakeholder engagement, with the support of a dedicated team. Specific tasks to be undertaken are:

Support and execute the research initiatives of the Programme.

• Contribute to designing research assignments, including developing research strategy and methodology as well as identifying specific activities and tasks.

• Remain updated with the latest tools and techniques for executing qualitative and quantitative research.

Air Pollution and Waste Management Programme

The Air Pollution and Waste Management Programme addresses the critical challenge of rising air pollution across India. Our goal is to improve policies and practices and drive innovative solutions through active collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders.

The Role

The Senior Programme Associate will independently lead and manage substantive air quality (AQ) research, policy engagement, and stakeholder outreach workstreams within the Air Pollution and Waste Management Programme.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage research initiatives

• Independently design and lead research projects, including the formulation of research questions, methodology design, fieldwork planning, data collection, and analytical frameworks.
• Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis using tools such as Excel, R, Python, SPSS, or equivalent, and translate datasets into policy findings.
• Lead emission inventory development and sector-specific regulatory gap analyses.
• Undertake literature reviews, comparative policy analyses, and stakeholder consultations
• Synthesise research findings into high-quality outputs including technical reports, policy briefs, working papers, and peer-reviewed articles.
• Stay abreast of national and international developments in AQ science, regulatory policy, monitoring technologies, and mitigation practices

Lead policy engagement and multi-stakeholder outreach

• Build and maintain sustained relationships with key government stakeholders at the central and state level, and relevant line ministries and departments.

• Lead on-ground mobilisation of stakeholders for field pilot and demonstration designs, and/or technical assistance initiatives.
• Maintain regular communication and follow-up with partner institutions to track progress, resolve implementation challenges, and strengthen collaboration.
• Support preparation of meeting notes, progress reports, presentations, briefing materials, and other programme-related documentation, as required from time to time.
• Represent iFOREST in external meetings, consultations, workshops, and stakeholder engagements, as required.
• Undertake additional responsibilities to support programme delivery, institutional partnerships, and the growth of iFOREST’s work in Uttar Pradesh.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Public Policy, Management, Economics, Energy, Sustainability, or any related field from a reputed organisation.
• Over 10 years of professional experience with clear indication of coordination support, stakeholder engagement, project implementation, government relations, or related fields.
• Experience working with government agencies, industry stakeholders, development organisations, consulting firms,or research institutions.
• Prior experience in environment, climate change, air quality, clean energy, industrial development, infrastructure, or sustainability-related initiatives will be an advantage.

• Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.Ability to effectively coordinate with government officials, industries, development partners,and community stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in English and Hindi.
• Strong organisational, coordination, and follow-up capabilities. Ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously and work independently.
• Strong documentation, reporting, and project management skills.
• Willingness to undertake frequent travel across Uttar Pradesh.
• Familiarity with environmental governance, industrial sectors, air quality management, clean energy, or climate-related programmes will be preferred.
