The International Forum for Environment, Sustainability & Technology (iFOREST) is looking for an experienced and dynamic professional to join its Climate program as a Lead.

She/He will play a pivotal role in guiding iFOREST’s research and engagement on area of climate change including climate law(s), institutions and action plans at the national and sub-national levels. This role requires a deep understanding of the legislative and institutional frameworks governing climate change in India and globally.

The successful candidate must demonstrate proven aptitude, substantial experience, and a track record of leading a multi-disciplinary team of 5+ professionals engaged in research and engagement on climate. The candidate should possess a strong understanding of climate mitigation, adaptation and loss and damage. Additionally, experience in conducting research and authoring reports related to the above-mentioned topics is essential.

This is a leadership position, requiring expertise in developing programs, managing teams, and executing projects. Furthermore, experience in engaging with national and international governmental and non-governmental organisations on policy and project implementation is a key requirement.

Candidates must also clearly understand and appreciate the critical role think tanks play in shaping public policy and supporting its implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the research initiatives under the climate programme, specifically on climate-related laws, policies, and institutions in India and other relevant regions.
  • Assess the effectiveness of current climate governance frameworks and identify gaps in legislation, institutions, and implementation.
  • Develop actionable recommendations for policy reform and institutional strengthening to support ambitious climate action.
  • Guide the development and prepare action plans for climate change at the sub-national levels (state, district, city, as required) along with team members.
  • Conceptualize, write, and review research documents, including analytical reports, policy papers, factsheets, etc.
  • Design and manage a comprehensive outreach strategy for the programme as well as for projects therein.
  • Enable the generation of policy-research partnerships with government, industry, and other stakeholders.
  • Build and leverage relationships to design and conduct roundtables, convenings, and report release meetings with government, industry, civil society, media, etc.
  • Represent iFOREST in national and international forums, contributing to discussions on climate governance.

Project and People Management:

  • Design comprehensive plans for executing research assignments. This would include developing the overall research strategy and methodology, as well as the specific scope of work, including activities and tasks required to be undertaken to achieve desired goals.
  • Assign the research plan/scope of work to the research team, and monitor its execution during the project cycle. This would include timely interventions in the form of review, guidance and course correction.
  • Mentor researchers and communications professionals to achieve programme objectives.
  • Engage in timely reviews of performance to track the progress and professional growth of team members.

Strategy and Institutional Growth:

  • Contribute to shaping the overall strategy for the programme, aligned with institutional priorities, sector-specific issues, and ongoing work of other key institutions.
  • Contribute to the preparation of new concept notes, proposals, , etc. that further institutional objectives.
  • Contribute to decisions for that ensure efficiency in organisational structure, culture and philosophy.

Required competencies

  • Deep understanding of climate laws, policies, and governance structures, particularly in the Indian context.

Qualifications:

  1. Primary qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Law/Economics/Engineering

The role involves significant independence, strategic thinking, research-driven programme design and implementation, and strengthening iFOREST’s footprint and partnerships in the Northeast region.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Postgraduate degree (or higher) in Environmental Science, Climate Studies, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Agricultural Economics, Economics, Ecology or related discipline. A PhD is highly desirable given the research-focus of the role.
  • 7–10 years of relevant professional experience working on climate adaptation, NRM, livelihood resilience, agro-value chains, forestry/biodiversity interventions and/or ecosystem-based adaptation.
  • Demonstrated research and analytical skills (both quantitative and qualitative methods), and experience producing high-quality reports/publications.
  • Proven project development and management experience including proposal writing, stakeholder coordination, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Strong understanding or experience of nature-based solutions (NbS), carbon projects or ecosystem-based adaptation is a major advantage.

Key Responsibilities

A. Research- Economic Modelling & Quantitative Analysis

• Develop, apply, and refine economic models such as: – Input–output models, CGE, Economic impact models, etc.

• Support modelling of regional economic transitions, sectoral diversification scenarios, investment impacts, employment effects, and fiscal implications. • Conduct quantitative assessments of economic structures, state and district-level economic indicators, enterprise ecosystems, market systems, and sectoral value chains. • Analyse large socio-economic and economic government datasets, and also project-level datasets. • Produce high-quality written outputs—economic analysis reports, modelling summaries, methodological notes, briefing papers, and presentations. • Convert complex quantitative results into clear narratives, policy-relevant insights, and actionable

Qualifications & Experience

Academic Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, with advanced training in economic modelling and quantitative analysis.

Professional Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in economic modelling, economic analysis, econometrics, or quantitative research in reputed organisations. • Hands-on experience in building and managing economic models (IO/CGE preferred). • Demonstrated ability to work with large and complex datasets (national surveys, labour/economic databases, financial/investment data). • Experience in regional or sectoral economic analysis—preferably related to industrial clusters, mining regions, or green transitions. • Proven track record of producing high-quality technical and written outputs on time.

Technical Skills (Must-Have)

Programme Lead- Industrial Decarbonisation

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic professional to lead iFOREST’s Industrial Decarbonisation Programme. The Programme Lead will drive research, policy engagement, and technical solutions to facilitate the decarbonization of industrial operations, particularly in energy efficiency, energy management, and GHG accounting. This role requires expertise in leading teams, managing projects, and engaging with government bodies and industry stakeholders.

The Industrial Transition (or industrial decarbonization) programme is a part of iFOREST’s flagship initiative on Just Transition. The objective of the programme is to steer a green industry transition to support green growth and green jobs, while improving local environmental conditions and achieving climate goals.

The programme is strongly focused on technical research and stakeholder engagement (especially with government departments/agencies and the industry) to achieve a green transition of fossil fuel-dependent operations that are associated with various industries.

Key Responsibilities

Research and Content Development

· Lead and oversee all research activities within the Industrial Decarbonisation Programme.

· Assign tasks to team members, provide guidance, and monitor progress.

· Finalize methodology papers, research findings, and draft reports with actionable recommendations.

· Research or consulting experience in energy, GHG, steam and process efficiency in MSMEs, Boilers and Industries is essential.

· Certification in Energy, GHG and ESG audits will be preferred.

Lead Urban -Green Cooling

The International Forum for Environment, Sustainability & Technology (iFOREST) is seeking a dynamic professional to lead its Urban – Green Cooling Program. 

The successful candidate must demonstrate proven aptitude, substantial experience, and a track record of leading a multi-disciplinary team of 5+ professionals engaged in research and outreach on low carbon cities and urban resilience. Specific areas of work will include, Green Cooling, Heat and Cooling Action Plan and low-carbon urban development. The candidate should possess a strong understanding of these issues. Additionally, experience in conducting research. authoring reports and organising meeting/workshop/conference related to the urban sector is essential. 

This is a leadership position, requiring expertise in developing programs, managing teams, and executing projects. Furthermore, experience in engaging with government departments on policy and project implementation is a key requirement. 

Candidates must also clearly understand and appreciate the critical role think tanks play in shaping public policy and supporting its implementation.

iFOREST’s Urban – Green Cooling Program is designed to develop solutions to build low carbon cities and enhance urban resilience and then work with the national/state/city governments implement those solutions. This is a research and engagement program to drive ambitious policy, strengthen institutions, and implement solutions. 

Key Responsibilities 

Research and Writing 

  • Lead the research initiatives of the program.  
  • Develop new methods/framework/planning tool etc.   
  • Assign research tasks and monitor their execution, providing guidance and timely interventions. 
  • Support the preparation of research/policy/project reports. 

Engagement and Outreach 

  • Lead the engagement part of the program including organising roundtables/ workshops/ conference, organise one-to-one meeting government and industry leaders, engage with media etc.  
  • Develop strong relationships with stakeholders and lead program outreach. 
  • Build and maintain networks with stakeholders across sectors, including government, industry, civil society organizations (CSOs), and media. 
  • Represent iFOREST as a senior leader in high-level meetings and events, presenting institutional perspectives and insights. 
  • Strengthen iFOREST’s profile as a thought leader. 
  • Design and manage a comprehensive outreach strategy to effectively communicate research findings. 
  • Foster constructive policy-research partnerships with government, industry, and other stakeholders. 

Leadership and Management 

  • Ensure that all projects meet their objectives, timelines, and budgets while aligning with the organization’s mission. 
  • Monitor project performance and proactively address challenges. 
  • Support in recruitment, mentoring, and managing a high-performing team. 
  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages innovation and sustainability. 

Institutional Development 

  • Work with program director to shape program strategies aligned with institutional priorities and sectoral needs. 
  • Develop concept notes, proposals, and budgets for new projects. 
  • Identify new initiatives and partnerships that advance programmatic goals in the region. 

Additional Duties 

  • Execute related assignments to enhance the Urban program. 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Master’s degree in Technology, Urban planning, Urban design or equivalent disciplines, with a B. Tech. or B.Arch. 
  • Minimum 10 years of full-time experience in research, strategy consulting, or advisory roles focused on Green Cooling, Heat and Cooling Action Plan, Urban planning, Transportation planning, sustainable urban design, etc.  
  • Experience of working in a think-tank space would be an added advantage.
