India’s Green Economy Workforce: Launch of iFOREST’s National Report on Green Jobs and Skilling
India’s green transition presents significant opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship across emerging sectors. However, realising this potential will require stronger links between education, skilling and the evolving demands of the labour market.
On 7 October 2026, iFOREST launched its national report, India’s Green Jobs Moment: Pathways to Build a Future-Ready Workforce, at the India International Centre, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ). The report estimates that India’s green economy could support 98.5 lakh jobs by 2030 and nearly 1.3 crore by 2035. It proposes a National Green Jobs and Skilling Mission, supported by state-level missions, to connect workforce development with emerging employment opportunities.
The conference brought together senior policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and skilling institutions for discussions on the future of work, talent development, industry engagement, and enabling policies and institutions. Key speakers included Dr. Shamika Ravi, Member, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, and Shri Niranjan Kumar Sudhansu, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, among others. Shri Sudhansu highlighted the forthcoming integration of green jobs and skills into the revised National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
