Citizen’s Corner

Citizen’s Corner

Overview

Nothing can drive environmental movement better than the collective citizens’ action. Citizens have locally stood up to combat pollution, to save green spaces and forests, improve waste management, and protect rivers. And whenever they have, the authorities have had to sit up and take action.

We, at iForest, see citizen’s participation as the foundation of building a strong environmental movement in the country. Our endeavour is to empower citizens with credible and relevant knowledge and tools which can be used to demand better environmental outcomes. We offer information, actionable steps and a platform for any queries you might have on issues of
environmental sustainability.

#HeatLexicon

As the planet heats up cities are heating up with it, however, not all cities are made equal, a number of factors go into determining how hot a city feels and how it impacts the lives of people that live there.

iFOREST heat lexicon is a social media education campaign that aims to demystify the concepts that go into our understanding of heat stress. The explainers will begin with basic heat related concepts like Albedo and Wet Bulb Globe Temperature, gradually building up to an explanation of iFOREST’s proposed Integrated Heating and Cooling Action Plan (IHCAP).

Albedo: The fraction of light that a surface reflects.

WBGT: A measure that combines the effect of direct sunlight, wind, humidity and air temperature to give a measure of thermal discomfort as perceived by humans.

Evapotranspiration: The process by which water evaporates into the atmosphere from the ground and the surface of leaves.

Smog Tales: Know your city and what you breathe

Smog Tales: Know your city and what you breathe

Through our campaign Smog Tales: Know your city and what you breathe, iFOREST hopes to take the conversation on air pollution from the capital city of Delhi to smaller cities, from the realm of expert speak to dinner table conversations. We hope to see our colleagues, friends and family talk about the data and science, causes and fixes for air pollution plaguing India across its Indo-Gangetic plains. The campaign focuses on six cities—Patna, Guwahati, Meerut, Baddi, Bhiwadi and Chandigarh. Be an informed citizen. Know your city and what you breathe.
