Environmental Safeguards – Groundwater Resources

Brief about the programme:

Sustainability, Innovations and Advisories Private Limited, in collaboration with its knowledge partner iFOREST conducted an online training program on Environmental Safeguards on groundwater resources for the officials of the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation (DWSS), Government of Punjab. The project is funded by the World Bank.

The online training program was conducted from 13th July 2020 to 15th July 2020 and attended by 25 officials. The main objective of the training was to ensure that environmental and social issues on groundwater resource management are systematically identified and managed during the various stages of project development, expose them to various clearances under different statues, and good practices related to environmental management.

The program covered subjects including availability and quality status of groundwater resources in Punjab, applicable environmental and others laws/ rules/ notification applicable on water supply scheme, procedure for obtaining groundwater withdrawal permission, drinking water treatment technology, operational and maintenance, prevent bacteriological contamination & treatment, safe disposal of arsenic contaminated water and SOP for disposal of laboratory wastewater, removal of arsenic, iron, fluoride from the drinking water, approach for rural water conservation and good practices, monitoring of groundwater table. Leading experts such as Dr Dipankar Saha (Former Member Secretary – Central Groundwater Authority), Charu Jain (The World Bank), Dhawal Patil (Ecosan Services Foundation).
